Electrify Bouddi was established in September 2023 as a not-for-profit community association for Bouddi residents and local businesses who want to reduce their climate impact, build climate resilience and save money on energy.
Our mission is to generate and share information, knowledge and guidance to develop individual and community-level energy solutions.
We seek to address the challenges of navigating multiple sources of information and the limitations of acting individually or passively waiting for governments to act.
We collate and filter information, build a network of engaged community members and offer inspiration and opportunities to take positive action.
Since each strategy opens the door to a range of potential actions, we have engaged widely throughout the community to gain a strong consensus for our priorities over the next 3 years. These priorities are presented in the following section.
By harnessing our community’s strengths, fostering collaboration, and remaining adaptable in a changing landscape, we are well-positioned to achieve our vision and make a meaningful impact.
Together, we can build a stronger, more resilient future—one that empowers our community, drives positive change, and paves the way for long-term success.
With dedication and collective effort, we will turn our ambitions into reality and create lasting benefits for generations to come.
To fulfil our mission, we have agreed six core GOALS to maximise decarbonisation and cost savings for householders and businesses in Bouddi.
Our FOCUS AREAS define how we plan to implement each of these goals. These have been selected on the basis on what is achievable and has maximise impact, taking into account our strengths and weaknesses.
| GOALS | FOCUS |
| To encourage action by providing information and guidance on the range of actions that can be taken by all households in Bouddi to reduce their climate impacts | Establish EB as a source of trusted information and services. |
| Provide access to relevant information and local experiences through the website and regular community events. | |
| Expand the Membership of EB and ensure it is representative of our community. | |
| Drive visitors to the EB website. | |
| To maximise uptake of solar rooftops by appropriate households, community and commercial structures in Bouddi to reduce reliance on fossil fuels & minimise energy costs. | Make the community more aware of the benefits of rooftop solar, overcome barriers and enhance confidence in local suppliers and installers. |
| To develop an effective powersharing platform for the community. | Link households within a local virtual power plant (VPP) to maximise use of energy assets and reduce energy bills. |
| Incentivise new solar and/or battery installations by creating a local power market. | |
| To meet local demand for electricity at peak times with cheaper and less carbon intensive stored electricity. | Increase the total capacity of battery storage in the area. |
| Understand the potential roles of community, neighbourhood and home batteries and their optimum mix for Bouddi. | |
| To increase the accessibility and usage of public transport, i.e. buses and ferries. | Replace the existing bus service with a smaller e-bus with increased frequency. |
| To increase usage of lower carbon emission private transport. | Encourage increased use of electric cars, e-bikes, bicycles and walking; and explore services for pooling/sharing. |
Implementation will be undertaken by project teams comprising volunteers from the community and co-ordinated by the Steering Committee.
