Join one of our project teams and use your skills to help research, gather information, and create clear, community-focused resources. It’s a great way to learn more about a topic that interests you – you don’t need background in energy or technology to get involved.
Our current projects listed below. If you think you might like to get more involved, simply complete the form at the bottom of the page and let us know which projects interest you.
This team aims to pull together and share information from reliable sources to inspire everyone in our community to take the next step in our journey towards net zero.
This may include organising our Action Day events and community forums at the Hardys Bay Club, , developing local case studies or using social media to provide practical information on what households can do to reduce their emissions and power bills.
Visit the ASK page for more information on current activities.
This team aims to maximise new and expanded installations of household solar PV and encourage the uptake of home batteries within the Bouddi community.
In addition to arranging special promotional activities, it manages our partnership with high quality local installers, through monitoring their performance and the feedback of local customers.
Other tasks include providing clear guidance to our community on emerging issues such as Virtual Power Plant (VPP)offers and developing recycling opportunities.

There is currently a lot of excitement about community batteries, but what are they exactly and how do they function? This team follows the growing number of trial projects across Australia to assess whether a community battery could work in Bouddi and if so, what would it look like.
The team is currently focussed on developing public information on the topic for local residents, including our webpage, and organising a community forum in 2026.
Australia’s EV market is booming, but many still wonder how electric vehicles actually work and if they’re practical in everyday life. Curiosity is high, yet concerns remain around cost, charging, range, and long-term reliability.
This team looks to provide answers to these issues through our webpage and community forum, vehicle demonstrations and by connecting the community with current owners of EVs.
The team is also working on improvements to local charging infrastructure to make it easier for residents and visitors to use EVs in our area.
This team manages our partnership with high quality installers, through monitoring their performance and the feedback of local customers.
Other tasks include assembling lists of new heat pump installations and collating the real-life experiences of local homeowners. In order to answer questions from the community, this team also examines new products and controls as they emerge.
Bouddi has a higher than average number of holiday homes or weekenders but it appears that they invest in rooftop solar, heat pumps and energy saving less than permanent residents.
Working with the property managers in the area, this team is promoting to owners of holiday homes the potential for cost savings and increased bookings from taking action. This includes examples of local owners that have positive experiences as a result of installing rooftop solar, new water heating technologies or EV chargers.
Microgrids are a small, local network of electricity users that coordinate local energy resources such as solar panels, battery storage and other distributed infrastructure. A microgrid can operate independently or connected to the main utility grid. This allows for greater control over electricity supply and can improve resilience during grid outages.
This team is looking at current examples of microgrids in Australia and researching their applicability to Bouddi so that it can better inform our community of the potential benefits.

Moving as much electricity consumption to daytime where solar electricity is both cheap and abundant is a crucial strategy for all households.
This project is developing a simple online tool to enable individual households to see what share of their electricity is consumed during the day. By providing this regular feedback, households will be able to see changes and be encouraged to create/maintain effective ‘green’ habits.
Demonstrating that Electrify Bouddi is having an impact is important to maintain the support of our members, the community and potential funders. However, measuring impacts is never easy because many external factors, such as the weather, alter our energy consumption.
This team is using a range of proven indicators, such as the number of new solar & heat pump installations within our community since we began, together with feedback from our members to estimate our impacts. Over time, we will also be developing ways to report our achievements, such as via a dashboard on the website and/or public signage.
Understanding how much and what type of energy we consume in Bouddi is a vital first step to working out how best to cut our carbon footprint and energy bills. To do this, a local team created a ‘model’ of energy usage by the houses and businesses in the area, based on various sources of local and regional data. This model is evolving to taking account of new sources of data and to examine future scenarios.

To understand how many households in Bouddi had solar rooftops in 2024, a team of volunteers were trained in the use of industry-standard tools to conduct this comprehensive assessment over 4 weeks. Read more about our 2024 rooftop solar survey.
Towards the end of 2025, we will repeat this exercise to evaluate the change in the number and size of solar installations in the area.
