The energy assessment gave the guidance we wanted

“It was an eye-opener when we only rated 4.5 on our energy efficient scorecard. We were so shocked” says Susan, “we have done all these things to reduce our carbon footprint so we thought we’d get 8 or 9 out of 10”.

Susan is speaking about her experience with the service provided by, Louisa Klopsteins, who conducts an unbiassed and expert assessment of the energy efficiency of individual properties.

“She was at our house for 4 hours and she examined the whole house – roof, ceiling, under the house, appliances, water heater, windows etc. She had a handheld device that showed us how much heat we were losing/attracting through windows and cracks.”

“Louisa then took us through everything she had found, and what she recommended we do. Afterwards we got a very comprehensive report with links to various suppliers for window coverings and insulation, shower heads, etc. It was the sort of practical guidance that we wanted.”

Susan and Alan moved into their Pretty Beach home in 2020 and began renovating to be as climate friendly as possible. They added insulation to the walls and ceilings, installed new double glazed windows, and bought energy efficient appliances including a heat pump hot water heater, heat pump clothes dryer, induction cook top, and a 5 star rated washing machine.

“We found out about Louise through Electrify Bouddi – I only wish that we had asked her to do an assessment while we were renovating and not waited till afterwards!”

Alan and Susan have already begun to implement Louisa’s recommendations, starting with putting solar panels on the roof and fixing the old French glass doors which had a big gap under them.

“Our next job is to look at blinds for the windows and retro-glazing the old windows.”
