Roof insulation made a huge change to the house temperature

“I could immediately tell the difference that roof insulation makes, even on the hottest days.  By keeping my curtains drawn in the mornings until the sun is off the windows, and then allowing the cross ventilation to cool the house off later, I find that I don’t need air conditioning.”

So says Hazel who recently installed roof insulation in her Wagstaffe house.

“It’s just common sense. If you think about it, roofs are exposed to the elements all the time and in summer without insulation you are cooking your house.”

Hazel has been a follower of climate trends and has keenly followed the development of practical solutions here and overseas.  She feels strongly that, as people on this planet we all need to be taking better responsibility for what we do.

Adding solar panels was one of the first improvements made by Hazel and her husband when they moved into their house.  She makes a conscious effort to use less energy, for example by running her appliances during the day, and using fans rather than air conditioning.

“As an elderly person you do become more aware of heat and cold, so I thought I should insulate the roof.”

“Where possible I always prefer natural materials, so the idea of wool rather than pink batts was attractive, especially once I found out that it was made in Gosford!”

“I also didn’t want to disturb the roof, so pumping Woolcell through the trapdoor in the ceiling made perfect sense. In the end the entire job only took 2 hours or so, and the team from 4 Seasons Insulation did a perfectly neat and tidy job.”

For anyone still hesitant about insulating their roof, Hazel’s advice is clear: “the change in the house temperature is huge!  And it’s not just good for the environment but also a sound financial decision, cutting energy bills and adding to the value of the house.”

“Everyone can make a contribution to reducing the carbon footprint!”
